For the Battlefield Assignment you will in essay format identify either a battle or a military ship that US military personnel have fought in from the Spanish American War 1898 to Present. This means that you will do some internet research and in your own words you will tell me what the Battlefield or military ship is, what happened there, why it is important, and if there is currently a museum there why and what purpose the museum serves, or if it is not a museum or historic site what is the land or place used for now and why? For this you must use a minimum of four sources. You may even use good old analog sources from our magnificent library on campus. As with the previous assignments you may not use Wikipedia, History.com, or Biography.com. Your Assignment will have a MLA format Works Cited Page at the end of the document telling me what sources you have used in the assignment. You will also use MLA in text citations so I can match your synthesized information in your text with to your Works Cited entries.
Your essay will be in Times New Roman 12 point font. It will be two to three double spaced pages of text. Your Works Cited does not count towards this length. You are encouraged to include photographs and or maps of the battlefield or military post. These do not count toward your text length, but they do make for a better assignment submission and give clarity to your words. Plus, maps and photographs are primary sources.
Below is a list of possible battlefields or military ships that you may do. It is not extensive and if you find one that is not on this list you may do it. I have placed some lesser known battles in here that are worth the look.
Note: It must be a battle that US military forces fought in. Not one where we just provide logistical support or financed the battle. This means that you cannot do a battle like Dien Bien Phu. While the US did pretty much finance France’s fight there and give them logistical support it was the R.E.P. and other Legionnaires that fought the Viet Minh.
