Galatians 2:20
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
A successful life in following Christ is simply to be faithful to Him. It’s not a complex command, but it can be a difficult one. However, we have been equipped with the Holy Spirit, who works within us for God’s pleasure and our good (Philippians 2:12-13).
The temptations that we face come internally (our own disposition to sin) and externally (in various ways). One of the significant temptations in the United States is desiring certain quality of life oriented around personal goals of comfort. If we follow Christ, we may or may not have particular comforts. It is a good thing to seek flourishing for the culture. The new heavens and the new earth, in the end of things, will be a place of perfect comfort and peace. However, the desire for comfort over following Christ is a present temptation to orient our lives around ourselves rather than allowing God to work in us and through us.
Write a 250-word response to how the desire for comforts can provide a temptation to be ungrateful, frustrated, or otherwise angry at God over our standard of living on the earth? And, how can we reject this temptation?
