For this writing assignment, students will look at the current status of how Generation Z has been shaped and influenced. Many of these influences come with both advantages and disadvantages. While supporters point to the law’s success in providing greater opportunities for women both in and out of athletics, critics charge Title IX sets up a quota system, jeopardizes men’s sports, and causes reverse discrimination. Still other critics claim that it does not do enough and its shortcomings demonstrate that it does not speak to the needs of an ever changing culture and society where our concepts of gender continues to evolve.
For this essay assignment, you will research an issue that specifically concerns the current status of this influence, event, attitude, or activity, analyzing the pros and cons while citing reliable, trustworthy sources, objective critics, and lawmakers to formulate a thesis that reflects your final conclusions based on your findings. This can be related to any of the topics that we have discussed in class with regards to our readings, in class activities, journal assignments, and class discussions. Be sure to focus on ONE aspect of of this event or trend made in your last essay (link above). Prompt: In your assessment of this trend or event shaping Generation Z, what is your final position that you take on this issue? Cite your research which should include a plethora of different sources such as: academic researchers, lawmakers, policymakers, think tanks, news reporters, critics, etc.

Provide a general introduction to the problem as it is today (make the reader care about the problem)
The introduction should clearly define a problem that has arisen based on your second essay. What is “the quality” of the problem for the purposes of this research class—is it important enough? Is it something that could be solved by a public policy?
A frame for the aspect of the problem you’ll focus on and its historical timeline (your perspective on the problem):
Identify a set of specific historical factors (people, events, dates, places, etc.) that have created or influenced the development of the current problem. Show the links between the problem and its history. What are the historical factors from the thesis that you are claiming had a specific role in the development of the problem?
Highly credible sources:
This source must be an actual person, an expert within a field related to your topic. You will write your annotated bibliographies on these sources.
Authoritative sources are not simply journalists, organizations, etc. though you can include information from such sources as long as the information is truthful and reliable.
Thesis statement that forecasts the rest of the essay’s content (specific historical moments for analysis) and structure
