The purpose of this assignment is for you to “try on” one leadership style and analyze how it “fits.”
You then write a critique of the leadership style from the viewpoint of a practicing manager.
Pick a leadership style and write a two-page essay that comprehensively, cohesively, and concisely addresses the following points:
Identifies one nursing leadership style for critique.
Discusses the concept of that leadership style.
Provide an example that demonstrates the style in a specific practice setting.
Analyze the benefit/usefulness of that leadership style for nursing practice in that setting.
The critique of the leadership style is written from the viewpoint of you as the practicing manager.
FOR EXAMPLE: Say transformative leadership is commonly used in a certain unit, such as an ER, to keep retention from the high stress of the ER. So, in the essay, it should state, “As the practicing manager, I use transformative leadership,” and give an example of how you use that leadership to prevent turnover. Then, critique this type of leadership as the manager- FOR EXAMPLE- high expectations from you as the manager have been found to cause your staff to quit. Another is that the staff is dependent on you as the leader.
You have to give an example of a practicing manager using this leadership style in a certain setting and then critique it.
(These are my own examples that you can use in the paper)
Two-page narrative essay that is comprehensive, cohesive, and concise.
Include Cover page and reference page excluded from page count.
Minimum of four paragraphs.
Correct APA format (Cover page is required) Correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation used. Be creative with your essay title.
A minimum of two scholarly resources is required. Uses scholarly literature published within the past five years.
No quotes, paper is student’s own thoughts and words supported by the scholarly literature. Hyperlinks connect to the correct resource.
